While Christmas can be about gift giving, the quality time spent with loved ones means so much more. I’ve teamed up with Net Zero Co, who I’ve collaborated with before, to show you how to make the most of Christmas 2020 in the most sustainable way possible!
There’s a tonne of ways to treat yourself, or even a loved one this festive season in a slightly different way to the usual pile of presents.
Baking isn’t my strong point (as you’ll be able to tell from the photos!) but it’s a great way to spend quality time with a loved one. Especially if you’ve got little ones running round to help you! Alternatively, cupcakes would make a fab little gift for someone. Who doesn’t love home baked goods?
I cheated with mine a bit and used a packet cake mix (don’t tell anyone) and they were absolutely delicious. Instead of traditional paper cases, I used the Net Zero Co silicone reusable cupcake cases – and they worked a charm! They’re sturdy and hold up well when you’re spooning the mixture in, and are super easy to clean and reuse.
They also have a set of two silicone baking mats on their website too – what more could you need for all your sustainable baking needs? They come in four colour variations; pink, green, grey, and blue. I got sent the pink ones, and they’re so cute!
Run a hot bubble bath, paint on a face mask, and unwind with a good book or your favourite Netflix series! Bonus points if you do this for someone special. When I bathe, I like to make it a whole experience. Yes, I’m boujie as fuck. This means face masks, salt scrubs, Epsom salts, the works! I particularly love the konjac sponges from Net Zero Co. They’re a gentle exfoliating sponge which are designed for the face, but can be used on the whole body. I love using them because I have very sensitive skin and harsh exfoliants can cause skin tears.
The Net Zero Co konjac sponges come in a pack of two, so I have one for my face and one for my body. Until you pop them in water, they’re rock solid, but after they mix with water they become super soft and pliable.
Don’t forget to remove your makeup before applying that face mask too! Reusable cotton rounds are a great alternative to disposable cotton ones. Net Zero Co’s reusable cotton rounds come in a pack of twelve, with a mesh laundry bag and reusable travel pouch. What I love about the design of these is that they’ve got a double-sided design. One side is super soft and silky, while the other is a terrycloth material. The silky side is great for removing face products such as foundation and concealer, while the terrycloth side can remove more stubborn products like eyeliner and mascara.
If you don’t wear makeup all that often (like me) these’ll also come in handy for removing face masks and other skincare products. I mostly use them for applying my toner in the morning or evening and couldn’t recommend them enough! They even work well with just water.
