Every year, I try to incorporate a new eco conscious swap into my lifestyle. This year, it came naturally for me to try the Ocean Saver cleaning drops. I’ve already tried making my own eco cleaners with ingredients at home, but wasn’t a huge fan of the results. So I thought I’d bag myself a couple of the Ocean Saver biodegradable cleaning solution pods and put them to the test!
Eco friendly cleaning is a difficult subject to approach. It’s always tough to know where to start – especially when presented with so many different options. I never know whether to go full on natural, or whether to dip my toe in the water with something not 100% sustainable. I feel like Ocean Saver drops are a happy medium – with minimal waste. I’ve said before that being 100% zero waste isn’t my goal, and I don’t believe it’s achievable currently within modern society. But there are definitely ways to work towards a cleaner, greener lifestyle!
OS was born as a response to the estimation that there will be more plastic than fish in the ocean by 2050. That’s one scary statistic! I’m so glad that there are companies working to prevent that with new and innovative products such as this.
The OS eco drops have 5 key characteristics;
The cylindrical pods are biodegradable, and when mixed with water release a powerful concentrating cleaning solution which can be immediately used on your surfaces after a quick shakeup!
Just drop, shake, and clean.
Unsurprisingly, I’m in love with the Ocean Saver drops! They’re easy to use, packaged entirely in cardboard, and provide powerful cleaning power that makes cleaning 100% easier. While they don’t make cleaning necessarily fun, they certainly get it a step closer!
I purchased three drops to try out – the all purpose floor cleaner in rhubarb coral, anti-bac in ocean mist, and the multi-purpose cleaner in lavender wave. Even through the outer layer of the pods, they all smell absolutely incredible! Especially the rhubarb coral floor cleaner, which I’m really excited to use.
I purchased an amber glass bottle from Peace with the Wild to use them in, which is the perfect reusable bottle. The only problem I had was that the neck of the bottle was a little too narrow for the pods, so I had to make a small hole in the pods in order to fit them into the bottle.
I’d say OS are relatively cost effective, considering they last such a long time. I’ve been using mine consistently and haven’t even reached the halfway mark over the last month.
Their Ultimate Refill Collection is £9.49 for 7 cleaning pods. That works out to £1.35 per bottle. While they’re not the cheapest cleaners available, they’re certainly not extortionate products.
The best bit about Ocean Saver for me is that they’re accessible! I’ve seen their products in a few Tesco supermarkets over the past couple of months, which is a refreshing change since eco cleaners are so hard to come by in a normal everyday setting! Hopefully more locations and stores will start to stock them and help bring eco cleaners to the masses.
Overall, the pods biodegrade unbelievably quickly in the water! It was really satisfying to watch it slowly break down into the cleaning solution. I almost didn’t think that they would biodegrade, I was a total skeptic. But Ocean Saver have really managed to create an insanely impressive product here. I’m a total fan girl.
And it’s not just me! In 2020, the Ocean Saver anti-bac drop was awarded the Good Housekeeping “Getting Greener: Environmental Innovation” award.
I’ve found the drops great for combatting tough stains, dust, and spills. I think I’m going to repurpose an old cleaning bottle to keep one Ocean Saver pod in my bedroom and another in the kitchen. The entire house is going to be spotless in no time.
As for the scents, they’re certainly refreshing and fragrant without being overwhelming. I’d personally recommend giving Ocean Saver drops a go – they’re cost effective and effective cleaners too! Definitely a must for the eco-conscious.
